Coastal Connections Program Achievements
Coastal Connections, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, founded in 2017, with the mission of protecting coastal habitats for sea turtle survival and recovery. Our purpose is to involve all people in the conservation success story of sea turtles. The diverse programs led by CCinc have contributed to the incredible "Comeback" story we are witnessing happen across Florida with record nesting seasons occurring year after year.
In 2023, the CCinc team has involved thousands of people in the sea turtle success story by:
*Recycling over 2 TONS of single-use plastic film generated by local small businesses
*Engaging over 1,000 community volunteers in International Coastal Cleanup Day
*Rescuing and reporting over 245 sick, injured, exhausted, or dead turtles in Indian River County
*Researching critically endangered Kemp's Ridley turtles with University partners
*Adding new educational in-class and field trip school programs for grades K-5 using real-life projects
Be A Part of Our Program Enhancements
CCinc needs your support to reach major milestones to enhance our programs and grow the impact of the sea turtle success story by protecting the habitats sea turtles need to survive and recover.
Here is how we will enhance CCinc programs next year based on each milestone we reach, together:
* $20K - Double the amount of single-use plastic film/wrapping recycled by adding new receptacles for large collections at the Vero Beach Outlets and recruiting new business participation in low-income communities.
* $40K - Revitalize the Fishing Line Recycling Program provided across Indian River County, by restoring previous recycling bins, adding 10 new bin locations to the Indian River Lagoon and beach accesses, and creating a new citizen science program to study recycled fishing line with local students.
* $60K - Purchase a Sea Turtle Rescue and Transportation Van for quicker rescues, safer travel to and from rehabilitation centers, easier public releases, and storage for rescue equipment.
* $80K - Expand our Sea Turtle Camera Research Program with University partners to study "What are sea turtles doing, eating, interacting with while living in the Indian River Lagoon?"
*$100K - Create a NEW Mobile Education Unit Program for high school students using the rescue van and real-life stranding scenarios to inspire careers in wildlife veterinary medicine.
All funds donated over the $100K goal will be used to enhance a combination of the programs outlined.
