Day 1-2
Playa Granda and Tamarindo
Arrival and Exploration
Once everyone has arrived in Liberia the trip facilitator and driver will take the group to Playa Grande where we will check into our local Costa Rican accommodation. The first day of our trip will be about exploring the most important sea turtle nesting beach for the Pacific Leatherback. We will conduct a beach cleanup at sunset along the Marino Las Baulas National Park. On day two, there will be a short class about the Park's history and its purpose. We will also take a short hike to explore the tidepools and travel to nearby Tamarindo for shopping.
Visit the densest turtle nesting beach in the world.
Day 3-5
Nosara and Ostional
Conservation and Sustainability
Once in Nosara our schedule is loaded! Dr. Bezy will present multiple short classes on topics including the basics of sea turtle biology, how our oceans are interconnected, and conservation efforts using novel technology to research sea turtles. To support the local community we will volunteer at the recycling center. We will also plant a tree for habitat restoration and will wrap up our time in Nosara by visiting the Ostional National Wildlife Refuge for a solitary nesting sea turtle tour with a local guide. Don't worry, we will enjoy some yoga to relax during our busy schedule too.
Cruise down a river to explore wildlife.
Day 6-7
Ortega and Liberia
Water Connections and Departure
Once we arrive in the small town of Ortega, we will dive into a short class about biodiversity and how water brings life that connects us all. Activities of the day include a riverboat tour along the Rio Tempisque bordering the Palo Verde National Park, assisting a local family farm with crop plantings, and learning to cook homemade tortillas. After staying the night at a Costa Rican family-owned hotel in Santa Cruz followed by an early breakfast, we will drive to Liberia. If time allows, we will visit downtown Liberia before making our way to the Airport.
